The Toucan club was once a landmark in Cardiff music scene. A legendary live music venue formally located on St Mary’s street in the heart of the city centre. It was renowned for it’s rich diversity of great live music acts and welcoming atmosphere. After enjoying many successful years, the club unfortunately closed its doors in 2005.
However, the brand is currently going through a revival. Former owner Simon Kingman, has been approached by the owner of the Exchange Hotel Cardiff to produce a YouTube TV show. A series modelling its self on the popular NPR’s ‘ Tiny Desk Concert’ concept called ‘The Toucan Music Exchange’.
Which will showcase a unique blend of up and coming music talent from the city. Jam packed with performances and interviews on location at the newly renovated historical Exchange Hotel.
The conception for this series coincided as part of industry work based module towards my Foundation Degree. The assignment would allow for myself and a group of fellow students to demonstrate the necessary skills needed to function as part of an industry based project. Such skills as liaising with other key departments, capturing live sound, managing live sound in post-production and exploring all concepts of promotion.
