So, my major project is based around the complexities of my condition being Asperger’s and how the marginalization had taken my voice. I decided instead to use my love of breakbeat music especially the Drum and Bass genre to my advantage and compose an EP using the power of music as my voice. If I can’t communicate because I’m being restricted by societies misguided interpretation of me then maybe I can use the music to speak for me. The EP itself is called Enigma which means a person or thing of mystery or a puzzle which I thought was an interesting and understandable representation of the subject matter.
Although at this moment I am still trying to decide on some of the songs content, but the title has been chosen. One of my main aspirations for this project was being able to collaborate with other artists and songwriters especially within the studio environment. This an area of expertise I have little experience with so was really relishing the opportunity to get involved. I also see it has a really great way from practical stance to get that vital time to develop my skills as a producer. I draw my inspiration from some of my idols like legendary Drum and Bass pioneer Goldie who created a whole career out of this ethos. The short documentary below show this type of workflow inexplicably.
So it makes sense for me to explore this type of approach when it comes to my own musical compositions and productions.
