With her roots firmly in jazz and a voice that could easily be passed off as folk , soul or even indie Rhythm and Blues , Hannah’s music feels both intimate and quite frankly timeless.
Drawing inspiration from such artists like Emily King , Lianne La Havas and Lake Street Dive , Hannah brings a wonderful mix of sultry vocals , lyrical precision and some real spark of rhythmic magic to every track.
After recently discovering Hannah I can happily say that I have really fallen in love with her work. My favorites so far being How Could This Love Be So and Hollow Bones. As an advocate for Hip Hop it only seemed natural I would be drawn to How Could This Love Be So with its Jazzy groove that had a J Dilla vibe married exquisitely together with Hannah’s undeniably honest and raw lyrical content that she performs so beautifully. Hollow Bones took my breath away it’s just melodic magic you know the kind that sends shivers up your spine I guess you could say from that point onwards I was Hooked.
Her debut full length, Right Where I belong, is a record on identity , stillness and creative reclamation. This album is about slowing down and learning to live from the center of myself ,” Hannah shares. A message I can definitely relate to; a rich tapestry of self discovery. Right Where I belong Hannah Stokes debut album is out on June thirteenth on all major streaming platforms from what I have heard so far I highly recommend it folks.
